Reflecting on a Year of Impact: A note from our Executive Director

By December 31, 2025February 17th, 2026No Comments

As we close out the year, I want to take a moment to reflect with gratitude and purpose on what we have accomplished together at the Michigan Community Health Worker Alliance (MiCHWA).

This year, 2025, tested our resilience and reaffirmed our mission. In the face of shifting policy landscapes, funding uncertainty, and growing community need, MiCHWA remained steadfast in advancing Community Health Workers as essential leaders in Michigan’s health and human services system. Together, we expanded training and microcredential opportunities, strengthened advocacy for sustainable CHW funding and Medicaid reimbursement, and deepened partnerships that center equity, community voice, and impact.

None of this progress would be possible without you, our CHWs, members, partners, funders, and allies.  You all continue to show what is possible when lived experience, expertise, and collective action come together. Your commitment fuels our work and strengthens the movement to ensure CHWs are valued, supported, and integrated where they are needed most.

As we look ahead to 2026, MiCHWA remains focused on building a resilient, sustainable CHW workforce, advancing policy that reflects community realities, and lighting the way forward together through continued collaboration. Thank you for standing with us and for all that you do to advance health equity across Michigan.

With appreciation and resolve,

Kareem J. Baig, MBA, GC-Public Health, LSSBB
